Where We Go From Here

This has been a long, hard-fought campaign all across this nation and here in Gregg County. Although we did not achieve all we wanted, Gregg County Republicans have much to be proud of: Republicans won throughout the county (Maxey Cerliano and Tommy Merritt were re-elected, McCain won Gregg County, etc.), a multitude of volunteers called over 12,000 people in Gregg County during the get-out-the-vote effort, the Republican party came together in ways not seen in a long time, and Gregg County is becoming the leader in East Texas once again. Put simply, we have much to be happy about.

As your chairman, I say thank you to all who participated in the campaigns, donated financially even in these difficult economic times, who worked at the headquarters, who called voters, and who did whatever they could to help the party. You have shown the dedication and passion that can help us as we move forward.

As we look to the future, let us learn from the recent past and focus on our determination to press our Republican values. Let us learn from this campaign and use what we learn to bring about success in the future, and that future is coming quickly.

The filing date for the next primary is only a short thirteen months away. The 2010 campaigns are critical and we cannot overlook them. Instead, we must begin working on winning those races. In 2010, Republicans have the opportunity to take back the US House and Senate from the Democrats.

Just as important, redistricting is coming! In 2010 we elect the legislators who will redraw the districts in every state in 2011. Texas, Florida, and others are expected to pick up seats in 2010. In these local races, we must work to elect Republicans who will draw the lines according to the law and not gerrymander according to Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s ambitions. These new districts will impact not only a line on a map, but will greatly impact how many gains Republicans make in the coming years. It will even affect the 2012 presidential campaign.

The campaign for the vital 2010 election begins now. The Gregg Republican headquarters will remain open throughout the year to help facilitate our ability to retake Congress, secure our control in the Legislature, and eventually retain the White House in 2012. The Republican Party needs your help, both financially and in man-power.

Over the next year we plan to hold a variety of events, activities, and fundraisers as we work to win in two years. Join us in this effort. Join us as we begin the work to win in 2010!

Your servant,
Keith Rothra
