N. Korea launches missle that can reach US, Obama hides behind UN
The US Constitution, Art. II, Sect. 1 requires the person elected as President to take the following oath: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” (emphasis added). Over the past week, Obama made a lot of noise about North Korea’s missile test launch, threatening to possibly shoot it down. Strong words and a strong stance from the White House.
This past weekend, North Korea launched their ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile), a weapon capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and reaching the United States. Many believe that Pyongyang’s goal is to have a nuclear ICBM, despite their claims about space exploration or other covers. Unlike their first test, this weapon flew without incident right over Japan; things went as planned–from North Korea’s perspective.
The reaction from the White House? Obama went whimpering to the United Nations, whose Security Council remains deadlocked. The most that was threatened: maintaining the current sanctions, maybe adding a few more. Yes, sanctions have worked well so far.
Despite the strong stance, Obama defaulted to the defunct (and dare I say inept) United Nations to defend the United States. This is the same United Nations that has a track record of failure to solve significant problems, inability to defend peoples and nations, and unwillingness stop rogue nations (though they do work hard against Israel and have recently insulted the United States as a deadbeat nation).
Instead of standing up against the terror-supporting Kim Jong-il and doing his duty, Obama is hiding behind the United Nations and depend on them do his job for him. It is true that he is demanding action (again, strong words), but he’s demanding UN action.
America deserves a strong leader with a backbone of steel, not a president with a spine of Jell-O.
Teddy Roosevelt is well known for his philosophy, “speak softly and carry a big stick.” Obama’s philosophy seems to be similar: “speak loudly and carry a big feather.”
