As a party we have two choices: stand by our values or cease to exist. Republicans in New York’s 23rd Congressional district elected a liberal as their nominee to run against the liberal Democrat. The result: a third party candidate who holds traditional Republican values entered the race and the GOP candidate was in third place!
Now we learn that the former GOP candidate (she dropped out) has endorsed… get this… the DEMOCRAT!
Yes, folks, the Republican (can we say RINO: Republican in name only) endorsed the Democrat. Of course, this doesn’t really surprise me one bit. She shares the same values as the Democrat, supported the causes of the Democrat, was endorsed by liberal groups like the Democrat… yet called herself a Republican. And even Newt Gingrich supported her!
Republicans, where are your values? Should we be open to debate and dialogue? Absolutely! Should we have a big tent? Yes. But not so big that we must sacrifice our core values to do it. Core values like smaller government, less taxes, local control, and abiding by the Constitution.
This Republican joins other Republicans like Tim Pawlenty and Sarah Palin and hopes the Conservative Party candidate wins.
GOP, heed this warning: hold on to your values or watch your numbers dwindle as conservatives flock toward third party candidates.
